I love Josette's Bistro
By John L.
My wife and I were on the hunt in Vegas for top-notch cuisine known by locals, away from the mega-expense and customer unfriendly Strip restaurants.
We were told to go to Josette's Bistro, on West Flamingo, just past Decatur . That not only did it have authentic French bistro food, but it also had another secret...
Josette herself greeted us at the door, just as though we were old friends, sincerely charming. They immediately brought water and delicious bread and a kind of tasty herb cracker. We had a ‘real' waiter, who knew his business and set about guiding us toward a wine dinner special that is truly mouth-watering and a very very good deal. I want to share it with you.
We started with a glass of champagne touched with Kir Royal. (Josette said she only drinks champagne!) The champagne was excellent. I am sorry I cannot remember the brand – it was a special reserve just for Josette I think.
Next he brought out Brie with caramelized apple on toast and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from Italy that really made the appetizer stand up, you could taste all the richness of the ingredients – Yummy! A salad with fresh curly endives paired with a Rose wine. I thought okay, they were going to stumble here But Rose really does go with endive!
I had the filet mignon with foie gras wine reduction sauce – of course an excellent Cabernet accompanied it. WOW. Cooked to perfection. My wife ordered Salmon cooked in wine sauce, and I think capers on it – she was served a Merlot. Excellent, excellent. Josette came over and talked to us a bit, one thing she said was her factory in Los Angeles made the Foie Gras! (Over a ton a week!) She also made the bread, and it is sold in Whole Foods. Anyway, we were having a great time and we were ready for “the secret.”
This absolutely charming creature came out and gave us a show in the restaurant that would blow your mind. She danced flamenco! She sang in every language, changed costumes for every song, made us laugh, cry, get up and dance with her. Her name was Kiki Kalor, and she took us 'Around The World" - from Spain to Broadway! Just fabulous. We have never had so much fun or a better meal. Thank you Josette and Kiki. Love, John and Betty.
Pros: Filet mignon with foie gras Red wine reduction sauce!
Cons: They weren't open on Sunday, when we wanted to go back. :((
