LOCALS CORNER—Josette's Bistro

4983 W. Flamingo Rd. , 702-227-4575

If you're not crazy about fighting your way onto the Strip to get to Mon Ami Gabi, then try the local equivalent, Josette's Bistro. Josette's doesn't have Gabi's outside dining or the view, but you get the fine French (Northern influence) cuisine and the ambience (all the employees are French) for about two-thirds the price. In fact, we duplicated most of the Gabi meal to get an even read. The steak sandwich that was $12.95 at Gabi, for example, is just $7.95 at Josette's. A charcuterie plate compares at $12.95 (Gabi) to $9 (Josette's). French onion soup is $7.50/$6.50. Quality-wise, it depends on the dish (and your tastes)—we preferred the steak sandwich at Gabi, but the onion soup at Josette's was far superior. Dinner gets even better, as Josette—who is usually there and circulating—is big on tapas-style appetizers ($4-$12) and very French entrées like steak tartar ($16), mussels Provençal ($18), and porcini ravioli ($18). Dinner is served with live music nightly.
